1. Registration and trial lessons
How do I apply?
You can apply on this website via “Sign up”. You will be contacted by a coordinator who will ask you about your lesson needs. You will be able to check your grammar level and oral level at the same time.
Can I visit a classroom to register?
Yes. Most students choose to register online because it’s quicker and easier. If you would like to register in person, you can do at our HH JapaNeeds Nagoya office by making a reservation. Students far away from Nagoya can register online.
When can I take a trial lesson?
After you register, our coordinator will introduce you to the most suitable HH JapaNeeds tutor and arrange a date and time for a trial lesson. It usually takes about a week to be arranged.
How much does it cost to take a trial lesson?
Sign up, registration, level check and trial lesson are all free of charge. If you are not sure about taking the trial lesson, you can get a gift of Japanese language learning materials by “E-Language Learning Course” as well. We do not force you to enroll even after a trial lesson.
2. Schedule of classes
When can I take a lesson?
You will work directly with the teacher to schedule the lessons. The teacher is available at the date and time of the student’s choice, so you can study at any time of the day or week you wish. In partner classes, the student makes an appointment with the teacher to meet his or her available schedule. In professional classes, the teacher will plan a curriculum of lessons according to the date and time of the student’s choice.
Is there a rescheduled lesson when I'm absent?
If you cancel within 24 hours, the lesson will not be rescheduled. It’s best to avoid last minute cancellations and always contact your teacher.
Is my schedule flexible?
Yes, you can make your schedule directly with the tutor. You can schedule lessons directly with your teacher at any time. To avoid missing a lesson, please plan at least one month in advance with your tutor.
Can I take more than one lesson in a week?
As a guide, one teacher should do it once a week. If you want to take as many lessons as possible, you can increase the number of tutors. You can have up to 5 tutors in Partner class.
There is no weekly limit for the professional class. You can schedule all the time you want to take the lessons with the teacher.
Do you want a private lesson (one on one)?
All teachers are tutors who can teach you one-on-one.
Do you have group lessons?
We offer a free Japanese language group lesson “Japanese day” once a month in the Nagoya area only. (We are temporarily closed for now.)
3. Location
Where can I study?
Students can choose a location that is convenient for them, such as a local community center or other public place, a café, home, office or online. Home and office are for Pro class only. Partner classes at home are negotiable for children and pregnant women.
Can I study outside of Japan?
Yes. You can study outside of Japan through online. We have tutors in Japan and around the world. In some major overseas cities, you may be able to meet face-to-face with a Japanese tutor nearby.
Can I continue taking lessons after I move to a new location?
Yes. We have Japanese teachers all over Japan. For example, a student who was taking a face-to-face lesson in Nagoya may move to Tokyo and continue taking lessons with the new tutor in Tokyo. They can also continue their lessons online with the same teacher after they move.
4. Lesson Fees and Payment
How much is the initial cost?
It’s completely free until you take a trial lesson. Once you are sure that the trial lesson is the tutor you want, we ask you to pay before you start your regular lessons. It’s simple and only a flat monthly fee.
How much do I have to pay each month?
The flat monthly fee is different Partner and Pro classes. Please check the price list.
Can I pay in advance?
We accept a lump sum payment for both partner and professional classes.
How much does a textbook cost?
Students can use their own textbooks to study. If you would like to purchase your own textbooks, we recommend some for you. You can check them from the following website. → here
How do I pay for the lessons?
You can pay by credit card or bank cash card using PayPal. You can also pay with cash from your bank’s ATMs.

5. Lesson
What type of tutors do you have?
We have tutors of all types – working professionals, students, housewives and retirees. Our tutors are very diverse and all have different skills and experience. Take a free trial lesson to find out. Pro class teachers have a qualification as a Japanese teacher and have more than one year of teaching experience.
How much experience do you have teaching?
Partner Class: Some of our teachers have taught before as Japanese language partners, while others are new to teaching. We have many great first time teachers.
Professional Class: These are certified teachers with more than one year of experience teaching Japanese.
I don't speak any Japanese, can I still study?
Yes, of course. Don’t worry, we’re here to help. Many of our students know little or no Japanese. You can get an English-speaking tutor if you want. We also have tutors who can speak Spanish, French, Chinese, Portuguese and Korean.
Do your teachers speak English?
We can arrange your tutor who speak English, a little bit of English, or no English at all. Please let us know the type of tutor you want when you register.
Can my friends join my class?
One-on-one lessons are very effective, but students who want to study together with their friends are welcome. Please register your friends as well.
Can I have more teachers?
Yes. It is possible to have more teachers. You can have up to five teachers per student in the partner class.
Can I change teachers?
Yes. If your schedule changes and the teacher doesn’t fit with your schedule, if you have been studying with the same teacher for a long time and would like to learn from a different teacher, or if you would like to study with a new teacher, please let us know.
Do you have preparation lessons for the JLPT?
Yes. If you want to concentrate on JLPT questions and grammar, Pro class is a good to start. Some of the teachers in our partner classes can also teach grammar. Both Partner and Pro plan includes a mock exam for the JLPT(Japanese Language Proficiency Test) through “E-Language Learning Course”.
Do you have any homework?
It’s up to the student. Let the teacher know if you want homework to be assigned.
6. System
How do I get in touch with the teacher?
You can contact your teacher directly by exchanging email and phone No.
Can I search and select a teacher?
You will be assigned a dedicated coordinator who will check your preferences and your level. This is the biggest advantage over other schools and is faster and more reliable than choosing an teacher by yourself or bidding on a lot of teachers. If you are not satisfied with the results of your trial lesson, you can try another teacher.
How long can I study for?
You can study for as little as one month.
Do I get a receipt?
Yes. If you would like a receipt, please contact us.
How do I cancel a course?
When you want to quit the lesson, please contact us. Payment will be suspended from the day you contact us to cancel the lesson. You can cancel the payment yourself.
Is there an enrollment fee?
No. There is no enrollment fee.
Is there an age limit?
No. Anyone who wants to study Japanese is welcome. Students of all ages, infants, school students, and adults, are studying at the school. Sitemap.
