From registration and trial lessons to lesson schedules, payment methods, tutors, online lessons, and cancellation, this FAQ explains how our Japanese lessons work.
Frequently asked questions
HH JapaNeeds provides customized Japanese lessons with carefully matched Japanese tutors. A dedicated coordinator listens to each student’s goals, schedule, location, level, and preferences, then introduces a suitable tutor for online or in-person lessons.
1. Registration and trial lessons
How do I apply?
You can apply through our website by clicking “Sign up” or by contacting us from the inquiry form.
After we receive your application, a coordinator will contact you to ask about your Japanese level, learning goals, preferred schedule, lesson style, and location.
Based on your needs, we will introduce a suitable Japanese tutor.
Can I visit a classroom to register?
Most students complete the registration process online because it is quick and convenient.
If you would like to speak with us in person, please contact us in advance. We may be able to arrange a consultation depending on availability.
Students outside Nagoya, outside Japan, or those who prefer online communication can also register online.
When can I take a trial lesson?
After you apply, our coordinator will review your request and introduce a suitable Japanese tutor.
We will then arrange a trial lesson based on your schedule, location, Japanese level, learning goals, and the teacher’s availability.
In many cases, a trial lesson can be arranged within about one week.
How much does it cost to take a trial lesson?
Registration, consultation, level check, and trial lesson arrangement are free of charge.
After the trial lesson, you can decide whether you would like to continue with regular Japanese lessons.
If you decide to continue, payment is required before regular lessons begin.
What happens after I sign up?
After you sign up, a coordinator from HH JapaNeeds will contact you to confirm your Japanese level, learning goals, preferred schedule, lesson style, and location.
We will then look for a suitable Japanese tutor based on your needs.
After a tutor is found, we will arrange a trial lesson so you can check whether the lesson style and teacher are a good match for you.
Do I have to continue after the trial lesson?
No. You do not have to continue after the trial lesson.
The trial lesson is an opportunity to check the tutor, lesson style, schedule, and learning plan before starting regular Japanese lessons.
If you feel the lesson is suitable for you, you can continue with regular lessons. If not, please contact us and we can discuss another option.
2. Personalized Tutor Matching and Customized Lessons
Can I search for and select a teacher myself?
HH JapaNeeds does not simply list tutors for students to choose alone.
Instead, our coordinator checks your Japanese level, goals, schedule, location, preferred lesson style, and tutor preferences, then introduces a suitable Japanese tutor.
This helps reduce the time and stress of comparing many tutors by price, profile, experience, or appearance.
If the trial lesson is not a good match, please contact us. We can discuss another tutor or a different lesson arrangement.
How is HH JapaNeeds different from ordinary online tutor platforms?
HH JapaNeeds is different from ordinary online tutor platforms because students do not need to search through many tutor profiles by themselves.
Instead, a dedicated coordinator listens carefully to your Japanese level, goals, schedule, location, preferred lesson style, tutor preferences, and special requests.
Based on this information, we introduce a suitable Japanese tutor who is likely to match your needs. You can then take a free trial lesson to check whether the tutor, lesson style, communication, and schedule are a good fit.
Our goal is not to offer one-time lessons with random tutors, but to help you build a smooth, long-term learning relationship with a tutor who understands you.
How does HH JapaNeeds choose the right tutor for me?
A dedicated coordinator checks your Japanese level, learning goals, preferred schedule, lesson location, online or in-person preference, and tutor preferences before introducing a teacher.
We may consider factors such as the tutor’s teaching experience, age, gender, English ability, other language skills, professional background, personality, availability, and lesson style.
You can also tell us special requests, such as a tutor with business experience, IT experience, childcare experience, experience as a homemaker, or knowledge of daily life in Japan.
After considering these conditions, we introduce a suitable Japanese tutor and arrange a free trial lesson so you can confirm whether the match is right for you.
Are the lessons customized for my real life and goals?
Yes. HH JapaNeeds provides customized Japanese lessons based on each student’s real life, goals, level, and immediate needs.
Your tutor can adjust the lesson content for situations you actually face, such as daily conversation, work communication, school life, travel, shopping, hospital visits, city hall procedures, business meetings, emails, interviews, JLPT preparation, or life in Japan.
Because you can continue with the same tutor, the teacher can understand your strengths, weaknesses, personality, learning habits, and progress over time.
This makes the lessons more personal, practical, and useful for your everyday life.
Can I combine in-person and online Japanese lessons?
Yes. Depending on your tutor’s availability and location, you may be able to combine in-person and online Japanese lessons.
For example, you can usually study online and sometimes meet your tutor face-to-face at a café, office, home, community center, or another suitable location.
Some students living overseas study online most of the time and take face-to-face lessons when they visit Japan for business, travel, or temporary stay.
This flexible lesson style allows you to continue studying Japanese even when your schedule, location, or lifestyle changes.
Can my tutor teach practical local Japanese and real-life information?
Yes. Your tutor can help you learn practical Japanese that is useful for real life, not only textbook Japanese.
Depending on your needs, the teacher can support topics such as local customs, natural expressions, polite language, daily conversations, workplace communication, school communication, neighborhood life, shopping, restaurants, hospitals, public offices, and travel in Japan.
Because the tutor is a Japanese speaker familiar with real communication, you can learn natural phrases, cultural background, and local information that are difficult to learn from textbooks alone.

8. AI Learning Support
Can I study Japanese with AI as well as a tutor?
Yes. You can use AI tools together with your Japanese tutor to make your learning more effective.
AI can be useful for daily practice, vocabulary review, sentence correction, role-play conversations, and preparing questions before your lesson.
Your Japanese tutor can then check your mistakes, explain natural expressions, correct pronunciation, and help you understand cultural or situational differences that AI may not explain accurately.
How can AI help me learn Japanese?
AI can help you practice Japanese outside lesson time.
For example, you can use AI to review vocabulary, make example sentences, practice short conversations, prepare for JLPT study, check simple grammar questions, or create extra practice exercises.
However, AI answers are not always perfect, especially for natural Japanese, politeness, business expressions, and cultural nuance. We recommend using AI as a study support tool together with lessons from a Japanese tutor.
Can my tutor help me use AI for Japanese study?
Yes. If you are interested in using AI for Japanese study, please tell your tutor or coordinator.
Your tutor may suggest how to use AI for review, homework, conversation practice, vocabulary building, JLPT preparation, or writing practice.
The teacher can also help you check whether the Japanese generated by AI sounds natural and appropriate for real communication.
Can I use ChatGPT or other AI tools for homework?
Yes. You may use ChatGPT or other AI tools for homework support, review, and practice.
However, we recommend that you do not simply copy AI answers without understanding them.
If you use AI to write sentences or answer questions, please bring them to your lesson. Your tutor can help you check the grammar, vocabulary, naturalness, and meaning.
Can AI replace a Japanese tutor?
AI can be very helpful for self-study, repetition, and quick practice, but it cannot fully replace a Japanese tutor.
A tutor can understand your level, learning habits, pronunciation, goals, personality, and real communication needs.
For the best results, we recommend using AI for daily practice and using lessons with a Japanese tutor for correction, speaking practice, motivation, and personalized guidance.
Is AI useful for JLPT preparation?
Yes. AI can be useful for JLPT preparation, especially for vocabulary review, grammar examples, reading practice, and making practice questions.
However, JLPT study also requires accurate grammar understanding, test strategy, reading speed, listening practice, and regular correction.
If you are preparing for the JLPT, your tutor can help you use AI more effectively and check whether the explanations and example sentences are accurate.
Can beginners use AI to study Japanese?
Yes. Beginners can use AI to practice basic vocabulary, simple phrases, hiragana, katakana, and beginner-level conversations.
However, beginners may not always know whether an AI answer is natural or correct.
For complete beginners, we recommend learning the basics with a Japanese tutor and using AI as extra practice between lessons.
Start learning Japanese with a tutor who matches your goals, level, schedule, and location.
Registration, consultation, level check, and trial lesson arrangement are free of charge.
