JLPT is an abbreviation for Japanese Language Proficiency Test, which is a major test for measuring and certifying the Japanese proficiency of non-native Japanese speakers. It is held annually around the world, with an average of about 600,000 people taking the exam each year.
The Japanese Language Proficiency Test consists of 5 levels from 1 to 5, with 5 being the most basic level and 1 being the most advanced level. Finding a job that teaches English is not that difficult in Japan, but if you want to get another job, the JLPT results are a prerequisite for applying for most jobs.
Many people think that passing N2 or higher will give them the job they want. Interviews are often conducted in Japanese, so you need to be able to speak Japanese as well as understand Japanese. There are many ways to learn Japanese, including online courses, group lessons, private lessons, and smartphone apps, but studying JLPT requires a slightly different approach.
Generally, N2 is considered to be the minimum ability required for basic work, and N1 is considered to be the minimum ability required for more advanced work. N5 and N4 are of little value other than showing personal aspirations and showing an interest and effort to improve Japanese proficiency. N3 is in the middle position and generally does not get a lot of work, but it helps to open some doors and some employers expect to pass the Japanese Language Proficiency Test N2 or higher soon. And may accept you.
JLPT is not for everyone. Unless you want to get a job or go on to school in Japan, there is no benefit to getting a qualification other than personal satisfaction and bragging stories. The disadvantage of JLPT is that JLPT is not a complete test, it focuses only on understanding Japanese. Listening, reading, and grammar. Speaking ability is not tested, and writing ability is rarely tested.
